Ladysmith BC is located on the 49th parallel and built on a hillside that overlooks the glistening waters of Ladysmith Harbour. The town is one of the oldest settlements on Vancouver Island.
Nestled on the eastern shores of spectacular Vancouver Island, the Town of Ladysmith features all the warmth and charm of small town living with a full range of services and amenities. A growing community (considered one of the fastest growing towns in BC) has an estimated population of about 9400 (2019) and is just 88 km (55 miles) north of Victoria and 23 km (14 km) south of Nanaimo.
Ladysmith is surrounded by beautiful mountains with lakes and streams. If you are looking for a convenient departure point for most outdoor activities, this community is a great choice. You can enjoy a variety of boutiques and shops with plaques describing their history. If you are out for a casual stroll, there are several turn-of-the-century buildings located along First Avenue. At Transfer Beach, you can go for a swim in the warm saltwater, picnic on the beach, or rent a kayak and enjoy the spectacular harbour views. Our wedding pictures were taken at Transfer Beach. There’s a great “Kids Park” there too!
Ladysmithsonians are famous for their “Christmas Light up“. The town goes all out with a beautiful display down the main street of Ladysmith. Every time we doive past there our kids always asked us to drive down the main street to check out the light show!
