Experiencing considerable growth in recent years, Duncan is a great community to call home. In 2008 & 2009 several big box stores went up in the North part of town and a bunch of reconstructing and building took place in the center of Duncan. The Vancouver Island University campus is located just off the highway, our Cowichan Aquatic Centre and Cowichan Community Centre are close by. We have new apartment and condo buildings going up all over to accommodate the population growth too.
In and around the Duncan area, you can take a walk through town and check out all the totem polls, rent a sea kayak for a relaxing ocean paddle in picturesque Maple Bay or Genoa Bay, or hike up Mount Tzouhalem or another of the surrounding mountains. Visit the Forestry museum and ride the train with the family (so much fun at Halloween or Christmas!), and there’s great restaurants everywhere for amazing food...your pick!
There’s some great fishing and swimming holes in the Cowichan River. Just ask the locals where the hot spots are. The water is a deep green color in the summer and it really feels like you’ve just experienced a little bit of heaven.
